SUNDAY WORSHIP
Our goal is to make your first visit feel like you have come home…for indeed, you have! The following is a snapshot of what you can expect as a guest at First Presbyterian Church of Downey.
9AM – Education Hour for All
9AM – Worship Service
(Children begin in main worship,
then go to Children’s Worship)
11:15AM – Fellowship and light refreshments in Cumberland Hall
WHAT TO WEAR
God’s house doesn’t have a dress code so neither do we. Worshipers at FPCD wear everything from shorts and T-shirts to business casual. Our service provides a “come as you are” casual atmosphere for worship. Feel free to wear clothing that allows you to feel comfortable.
PARKING
We have a large parking area in the front of the church for you to use as well as street parking. Feel free to park in any spot. We also have a few handicap designated spaces in front of the church entrance.
ENTERING THE CHURCH
Our sanctuary is located at the top of the stairs. If you need additional assistance there is an elevator located next to the stairs available that will lead you to the sanctuary. You’ll see a greeter who’ll welcome you and hand you a bulletin that includes the order of worship and church announcements. They can answer any questions you may have, but if the greeter does not know the answer, he or she will certainly know who to ask or where to find it.
NURSERY
Nursery care is available for children 4 years old and younger. Our Nursery Caregiver has been background checked for your child’s safety.
THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE
As you enter the sanctuary, find a seat where you’ll be comfortable. Our service is 60 to 75 minutes long and begins with announcements and we’ll point out Visitor Cards for attendance and prayer requests. While we hope you’ll let us know you came, you’re under no obligation to do so.
Following announcements we will have a short greeting time and a few songs of contemporary praise music lead by our Praise Band. The lyrics will be posted on a screen for all to see and sing along.
We enjoy a variety of musical presentations in our blended worship including choral music, solo offerings, and more. If you would like to learn more about our music ministry click here for more information. Other elements you may experience are congregational prayer, scripture reading, a children’s message, a sermon, and offering each week.
The Lord’s Supper is open to all who are baptized. Plan to attend on the first Sunday of the month. We have a variety of special Sundays throughout the year so chances are you’ll find something special happening when you arrive.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CHURCH
In a word…FELLOWSHIP! Join us in Cumberland Hall for light refreshments. Greet our Pastor and ask any questions you might have about your visit and our church.
